Comparing the efficiency of single glazed windows and vacuum-sealed glazing

U-value is the rate at which heat transfers through a structure or object is measured. So, the walls of your home have a U-value, and so do your windows.

The lower the U-value, the better the windows are at stopping heat from entering or leaving your home.

Single-glazed windows have a U-value of around 5 or 6.

The double-glazed units that we retrofit into your existing window frames have a U-value of 0.7. This is the same U-value as most modern triple-glazing units, estimated to achieve A-rated windows efficiency.

However, FINEO glass is just under 7 mm thick compared with the 36-44mm thickness of triple glazing.

The thickness of triple glazing or regular 24 mm double glazed units does not make it suitable for restoration projects.

The reason the glass that we use is so effective is that it is vacuum-sealed rather than gas-filled. As with any new technology, it is not cheap, and not many glazing companies make it, but the pros of vacuum-insulated glazing overweight all its cons.

Vacuum-sealed double-glazed units can be a fraction of the thickness of normal double-glazing units because a vacuum does not transmit heat and is the best possible insulation barrier.

The thin profile of VIG glazing units means we can install these glazing units into existing windows, which were originally designed for single glazing.
